Screaming in Sweden

i’m a cyborg, but that’s ok

this is the most vibrant and the loveliest movie i’ve ever seen. so lovely it’s full of beautiful colours and the soundtrack is just wonderful.

i love it so much i can watch it again and again and it will make me so happy. it’s a little nutty… offbeat kinda humor… a bit alice in the wonderland and it sort of reminds me of the book – veronica decides to die.

i just love how it combines the happy orchestrated tunes to some “terminator” type of scenes… the plot is rarely predictable and it’s so full of wacky imagination and childlike fantasy and it makes you feel like you wanna be one of those crazy happy people living in the greenish bluish pinkish turquoise mental institution…

the main character young-goon thinks she’s a cyborg.

red younggoon

robot young goon

soon she meets a boy called il-soon who likes wearing masks and he thinks he can grow smaller and smaller until he becomes a dot.

and he sports a bizarre hairdo (psst… he’s also a “thief”…)

and then they grow to like each other.

he makes her this happy…

i mean he is korean and he yodels. enjoy this little masterpiece :)

sengkuku and his brown envelope

we call him sengkuku.

sengkuku is my mother’s younger brother. he is really the best and the sweetest uncle one can ever ask for. that is a fact. really. he is a little eccentric and he is often obsessed with things. he is an artist you see *w*

he likes telling stories, he likes plants like cattails (i love them too!) and water lilies and i have a feeling that he likes ferns too. he collects things like wooden furniture and he likes to decorate his place with cats and owls.

when i was younger, we used to visit sengkuku quite a lot. one time, i remembered admiring his collection of what seemed like thousands of glass containers and bottles of all kinds at his house at jalan tempinis, bangsar.

it has sort of stuck in my mind since then. i still have a thing for any jar or bottle made of glass. i clean the jam jars so i can use it for other stuff like storing cutips and makeup remover pads and cleaning my art brushes. i buy marmalade because of i adore the jars.

another thing that stuck in my mind when i think of sengkuku is a brown envelope he showed me once. he used to collect cutouts from magazines and newspapers with ads which he loves and put them in that worn brown envelope. On the envelope, handwritten using a regular black pen, it read “Great ads”.

my brown envelope is still empty. i hope i will be able to show my envelope and its contents to my niece or nephew one day and they will remember it like the way i remember sengkuku’s brown envelope.

sengkuku is one of the most inspiring persons i know and he inspires me to think and be creative at everything i do in countless many ways which make me the person i am today.

and he has just started a “blog“.

i think everyone should have a sengkuku in their life.

i’m a little obsessed with everything girly at the moment.

skirts. bows. big hair. buttons. hearts. pink. long eyelashes. sweets. umbrellas. dresses. hats. day dreams. dreams. and more dreams.

here are my girls. they are still growing. they probably need to get to know each other better too so i’ll put them together in one painting someday. and they probably need more girlfriends.

the angelic alex (and the devil):

the girly rebecca:

lucy who thinks too much:

and chan who loves pinafores (sorry i dont have a close up on chan):

i’m so happy the fact that anders kind of hates them at first but he has grown to love them now. he loves my girls. and i hope you like my girls too.

Oscar and the Lady in Pink

here’s one little book written by a french author éric-emmanuel schmitt that i’ve read recently. and i just love it! it’s just so sweet and sad. but sweet kind of sad. it makes you laugh it makes you cry.

and it makes you wanna live your life as if it were the first time…

the best thing about this book is that it’s only 88 pages with lots of white spaces so it will only take like an hour or so if you read really slow like me.

the book is about oscar who is ten years old and he’s dying. he starts writing letters to god because his best friend named granny rose tells him to.

he falls in love with a girl. peggy blue.

and wants to protect her from ghosts…

and i really shouldn’t say more.

dinner so good you wanna eat it again and again.

the ingredients:

– pasta sheets

– bolognese sauce (minced meat and tomato)

– ricotta mixed with sun-dried tomatoes

– spinach

– béchamel sauce (basic white sauce)

– some grated parmesan cheese

– salt and peppar

i’m not sure how they make the “real” lasagne, but i think we can all be a little creative sometimes. so do alternate layers of these ingredients (pick your favourites or use them all!), bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 200°C, and you’ll have your very own lasagne! :)

so good you wanna eat it again and again.

here’s mine:

ta daa…

ciao :)
